Looking for advice. I rode a lot when I was 6 - 14 yrs old but not much since then. I'm 35 now and weigh 190 lbs. in good shape. I will mostly be riding mx tracks, some well maintained, some not. also some fire road type trails. No wooded trails in my area (northern socal). Just starting to look at bikes and some friends say a 450 would be better in time and ok to get back into it with as you don't have to keep the revs up so much and you can ride most of the time in a higher gear. Other friends say a 450 will be too much power to deal with and a 250 would be better. Not looking at any particular brand yet and still considering new or used. Any thoughts?

In my opinion I would get a 250F its lighter easier to control and a 450 is just too ungodly powerful. My uncle has an 06 KX450F and it has more power than a buddy's 05 CRF450R that has 2700 dollars worth of engine work to it >.< I weigh 180 and in good shape and its just not fun on a 450 your constantly fighting the bikes power and you cant have as much fun on it as you can a 250F. I have a 08 YZ250F brand new just got it and I love it. Can whip it around so easy, it jumps amazing, little stiff in the flat corners but its balance and engine durability is fantastic. Power is just right and everything. I came from a 05 KX250F and it was an excellent bike also. Thats just my 2 cents though =)
