Freestyle pioneer Metzger puts on a show to narrowly win West Coast championships on Saturday.

SAN BERNARDINO - Mike Metzger, considered the pioneer of freestyle motocross, narrowly defeated Brian Deegan to win the West Coast Freestyle MX extreme championships in front of 7,500 fans Saturday at the Orange Show Speedway.

The 26-year-old Metzger earned a total of 92.2 points on the strength of three spectacular backflips that reached an altitude of 50 feet.
