The Full Throttle Sports Victorian ThumperX was held at the Pakenham Motor Sports Complex on Sunday 10 October on a beautiful sunny Melbourne day. ACS Racing had five riders entered and as usual the Juniors were on fire with two first places and a third.
The senior riders Ryan Smyth and Adrian Salmon in the Clubman Lites both had good rides and a great day. The track was a grass field complete with yellow daisies in full bloom that soon turned into a tough track with ruts, braking bumps and slippery corners but it still remained a fun track that tested both bike and rider.
The youngest team member Luke Smith had a great weekend on the ACS Racing Yamaha TTR125. Luke won the Club Thumpers class at the Nunawading and District Motocross Club s third round of their club championships on Saturday 9 October 2004 and then won the Up to 125cc 4 stroke class at the ThumperX at Pakenham on Sunday 10 October 2004.
Cool Hand Luke was keen to win and has now got used to the 4 stroke. Luke led the other riders in his class by a long distance and was actually in amongst the bigger bikes. The big 250 4 strokes are scary. said Luke. The girls can ride them well but when you are on a little bike racing in with them it s hard to pass them and they rip along the straights but you catch them in the tight stuff and pass them.
Tyrone Parris rode the Honda CR/XR to a solid third place in the Up to 160cc class at the ThumperX. Tyrone said All season I have wanted to get to the podium in the ThumperX and at Avalon I was one point off. I knew I had to beat Jye Townsend (Yamaha TTR125) at Pakenham and with some coaching I improved my speed and was able to chase Matt (Van Slooten) who was really fast and leave Jye behind.
With Taylor Potter injured Travis Chaing took charge of the BBR 150 and after running second in the first race to Matt Van Slooten (Honda CRF150) a couple of changes were made to the suspension and Travis took the BBR to 1-1 in the next two races giving him 1st place.
I have known Travis for many years, I remember him back on a 60 when he was around 10 years old. Said Adrian Salmon, owner of ACS Racing. He has always been a fast guy and strongly supported by his family. With Taylor injured, the bike sitting there and the Chaings asking about Taylor I thought Travis could be given an opportunity to have a fully supported ride. I asked Travis and he jumped at the opportunity and delivered 1st place which was an excellent outcome.
Thanks to Moto Yamaha, Riders Edge and Ken Colvin Pty Ltd for the support and the next Full Throttle Sports ThumperX is on 5 November 2004 at Barrabool, near Geelong where the team intends to build further on its success.
