Sawmill Enduro

I rode the Sawmill enduro on Saturday. The End......

OK, key time was at 9:00 AM and I signed up on Friday night and made my way back to Ukiah to my room at the Motel 6. Back at the motel, I put number 15T on my bike and programmed my Checkmate. Then, I finished my beer and went to sleep. I got up at 6:00, put on my gear and headed out. The first stop was for gas and coffee. I picked up a Cliff bar for breakfast, because I really don't do breakfast. During my 38 mile drive to Middle Creek camp ground I forced myself to eat the Cliff barr and sipped coffee. Once I got there I taped my score card on my fender and checked my bike over. The tires needed air if I didn't want a pinch flat. Then, I checked my steering damper tower and it needed to be tightened. &^%$%^&*!!!!!!!! One of the bolts stripped and I had to remove the damn thing. No steering damper for me. So, I'm annoyed and I take of in 30 minutes. Oh well, I put it out of my mind and start thinking about how great the conditions are right now. It had rained in the area, but not too much. I was stoked to get on the trails.

Cajun Classic Enduro / Fun in the Sun in Louisiana

After loading and fueling the truck on Friday, I got up and headed South on Saturday morning. 20 minutes later I crosss the AR/LA state line and set the cruise control on 55. I really enjoy books on tape when I'm driving to the races.

2.5 hours later, I stop at Reggie Berry's house. He lives about 8 miles south of Breezy Hills. We loaded his bike on the three rail trailer and head towards Forest Hills, some 50 minutes to the southwest of Reggie's.

The woods down our way are turning all shades fresh green, and the spring flowers and flowering dogwood trees just highlight the colors more. This is the prettiest time of the year for me in the deep south.

The Massape soil: Enduro Ride Report

Yesterday I was at Ponta de Pedra, about 100km (~60 miles). It was the first enduro of the season. Ponta de Pedra is a very beautiful beach, with a calm sea, perfect for swimming andkids. The place is very calm and small.

The efforts to go to the enduro began friday night. My car, a 91 vw gol, had a not-working cassete player in it when I bought the car. Some time ago, I sent the stereo to fix it and a hard to find transistor made me car sound-less for a long time. Friday evening, he gave my stereo back and I finished installing it by 1am. I burned the water temp gauge in the process... Oh well, at least I could drive to Ponta de Pedra listening to Iron Maiden.

AZ Race Report: I'd Have Rather DNF'd

Well, it was a rough weekend in Arizona for our local heroes.

Eric and I arrived at sign-ups for the Desert Mountain National Enduro right when they opened at 10am Saturday morning. We parked by Bruce and Clint Brown's compound, but they were nowhere in sight. The first thing Eric does when he exits the van is walk straight up to a cholla cactus and touch it with his finger tip. Of course, he backs off looking like a pin cushion. I don't know what he was expecting, but he sure looked like a new-comer to the desert with the spines poking out of his finger. What a dork

Paris to Dakar

For those of you who live in Australia, the Paris to Dakar highlights are broadcast on SBS TV each night at 7pm. That talcum powder sand on Stage 6 looked like really tough work on the show last night!

Aussie Andy Caldecott gets 3rd on stage 6

While its certainly still early days, Australian Andy Caldecott has shown that he has the pace to match it with the leaders with a third place in todays sixth stage of the Paris-Dakar.

In an Interview, Andy said:

"I guess it is a satisfaction to be in the top 5. But I'm disappointed because during 80kms I was in the dust of Cyril Despres. I then had a fuel problem. I knew I hadn't run out of fuel. It was just that the fuel wasn't going through. It happened at 10kms of the finish line and I lost around 30sec. I was very comfortable during the first 200kms. Tomorrow's stage is daunting because of the unknown ! I've never done such a long stage

5 German Enduro Titles for KTM!

Last weekend the German Enduro Championships came to a very successful end for KTM with the last race in Zschopau. The result: 5 titles!

Marcus Kehr of the R+P KTM Sturm Team became the 125cc 2-stroke German enduro champion.
