2 strokes are a far better sx

2 strokes are a far better sx bike but on a free flowing motox track the 4 stroke is very hard too beat

Four strokes have more torque

Four strokes have more torque, but two strokes make more power the dynos dont lie.

More Power?

But for the average rider, a better spread of power is more useful than the "most" power, and will have you cutting faster laps more comfortably.

Although its sometimes not as much fun as hanging on for dear life off of a screaming 2 stroke ;-)

2 strokes cant be beat

as far as motocross goes a 2 stroke cant be beat, it is unfair to mismatch them, how a bout a four stroke 250 against a 2 stroke 250 then we will see who will win in a race. 2 stroke are quicker lighter and a hell of a lot more fun.

Yeah Yeah

And how about a 1.3 Litre Rotary engine against a 1.3 Litre two stroke? or a 1.3 Litre four stroke. Or even a 1.3 Litre 6 stroke! http://www.sixstroke.com/

Then are we still comparing apples against apples? Not really.

I say each to his own, I currently have a 4 stroke, but I was pretty close to getting a 2 stroke, just the hassle of premxing on trail rides stopped me. Actually, if I didn't have to do that, I'd have a 2 stroke next.

Luckily, there are new developments in technology all the time. Unfortunately, we dont seem to see too many of them in production ;-(

However, perhaps soon we'll have a fuel injected 2 stroke that has seperate oil and fuel tanks, and does the mixing for you. Then I'll be on that bandwagon ;-)

They did have oil injections

They did have oil injections in older two strokes, they stopped it because of the inconsistency of the injection. four strokes are great for trail riding but no anything else.

GT80

Yep, I know they used to have it. My trusty old Yamaha GT80 had it. And it ran like a clock. If they can do fuel injection, surely they can figure out oil injection.

Maybe one of these:

two strokes for life

another reason is weight, two strokes are always trying to get lighter the pump and container for oil would weigh too much. maybe four strokes should try to go on a diet.

Weight?

I'd happily have that extra kilo of weight if it meant no premix. ;-)

2 strokes won't be beat

I agree with that statement. I know this site is for bikers, but I race 250 superkarts in South Africa, which use Rotax GP 250cc twin 2 stroke engines, some pusing out 100 hp, accelerating driver and Kart (220kg total weight) from 0-200kph in 6 seconds. Try beating that with a 4 stroke...immpossible. Long live 2 strokes.

question

is it trew that you must replace parts for a 2 stroke after racing, because sometimes people drive them hard?

Anonymous (not verified)

Question

I'v herd that you have to replace lots of parts on 2 strokes, and i was just wondering witch part you must reblace.

Rings

With a two stroke, you may have to replace the piston rings often. Often being maybe once a season on a bike not ridden hard, once a race meeting on a bike you want peak performance on. This is much less of a problem with four strokes.

However, almost anybody can change the rings on a two stroke, but it takes quite a bit more work to adjust the valves (which is often what needs doing first) or timing, or anything else on a four stroke.

Basically, I'd happily put up with the changing of the rings etc, if the two stroke could be filled straight out of a petrol pump. Mixing fuel is a pain.

4 strokes are the best and always will be so just accept it and buy one i have a 2 stroke and i have a four stroke i dont ride the 2 stroke it sucks

4 strokes are better

2 strokes are faster but you always need to replace parts, and mixing gas sucks, so do the cost of gas for an hour of riding. I like a bikes that you can just drive up to a gas station, pump ur gas and ur on your way
