I'm about to pull the trigger on my first dirt bike in the next day or two. Can't decide which would be better for a 230 lb. 48 year old that just wants to get out and ride trails in the mountains. I've no intension of racing or jumping. I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have.

If its your first motorbike,

Depends on your experience level, the 230F is really a beginner bike, while the 250X is basically a racer.

As always, test ride first is best.

We have a crf230 in the

We have a crf230 in the family with a pipe, air filter, and jet kit and it's a quick bike. I'd say you'd waste money buying a crf250x if you're just riding easy. the 230 is a great bike for the trails. trust me, it used to be mine, i have a crf250r and they are a little too beastly for the trails. the 230 cruises the best on trails. the only reason why a 250x may be better for you is the suspension set up. it's stiffer and may be better for your weight vs the soft 230. but overall, the 230 is proly your best bet
