i have a 1986 yamaha yz80 it dosent want to kick start so i pulled it behind a friends truck with it in second gear
and after a minute it starts to run. okay now after it has fired up due to pull starting by the truck i can shut it off and when i kick start it fires right up no problem BUT if it sits for a while it will not kick start for anything.

maybee spark?
once it fires up it runs great and it also starts on the first kick, but if it sits for a couple hours theres nothing...i dont know is somthing get energized from the pull starting that makes it easy to start and then goes away?
points
the points might need to be cleaned use a file or the coil might be screwed its easy to track down electrical problems if you have a volt tester just make your way down the ignition system untill you have spark then you know where the problem is
im pretty sure points were al
im pretty sure points were already gone by then. this sounds not like an electrical problem. once the bike is warm would not affect how electronics perform. it def is sumthin else. and when yur troubleshooting a bike that wont start what are the 2 things u check gas and electric. so its not electric so check gas related things. also a 1986 yz80.... when was the last time u went for a rebuild. even thought it sounds like the opposite prob of compression i would still check it out
ya
the rings in my '83 yz 125 went last year and i could bomb start it in 1st gear. check the reed valves. it could also be a improperly adjusted choke
if you can bomb start it in 2
if you can bomb start it in 2nd gear behind a truck with out the back wheel lockijng up id say it is low compression due to worn out piston and rings
thanks
thanks i will take youre advice and look into all those things.
Has it been lyin up for ages.
Has it been lyin up for ages. If so i would be givin it a extra bit of mix cause it would need it after all its oldskool xD
