Where are the points on my 1982 Honda XL80S????

I just can't seem to find my points. I'm a 15 year old guy, that's interested in the motorcycle mechanics field of experteese. I think the points are the problem, cuz i got new carb, ignition system, sparkplugs, and everything. My dad think it's points too, but i can't find them. I take off the side cover thing, but i dont' see them when i look into the little circular thing that turns when the bike is turned over. lol, i don't know if you know what i'm talkin about, but any help would be nice thnx

re: Where are the points, etc.

I don't think it has points. I have a '79 xl185s and it has a CDI unit. It's just a sensor and magnetic pickup that takes the place of old style mechanical points. Try to find a manual on ebay for your bike. It will have all the technical data for you. Happy wrenching.

Where are the Points

Having owned a few of these i can tell you there are no points. They are CDI.Check the inside of the sidecasing and there should be 2 coils screwed to it. If there is no spark get these checked they may need rewiring or replacing. If it has spark but still won't go check your Cam Timimng.Hope this has been of help to you.
