Just shy of his twenty fourth birthday, Rui now goes to the GP of Catalunya next weekend as the winner of the last two MX2 GPs after having vaulted into fourth place in the season's standings. Emotional win
After a superb start and the hole shot, Red Bull KTM's Steffi Laier's luck ran out in Portugal in the first of two motos of the women's world championship round two on Saturday.
"I had no problem with Livia passing me in the early stages because I just wanted to settle in behind her, pick out the lines, race my race and wait for my opportunity to re-take the lead," the talented young rider from Germany said after the race. "But I was riding tight on the inside and when I caught up to the back markers one of the slower riders braked in front of me and I couldn't avoid her."
With his sights set on two top five results in Sunday's MX1 GP of Portugal, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Max Nagl finished in sixth place in Saturday's qualifying.
"This was a good day for me," the German rider said. "I was quite fast in all sessions and I like the track a lot." Nagl got off to a good start and was riding comfortably with the front runners. He was riding in fifth place behind Italian Antonio Cairoli and although was passed by Tanel Leok in the closing stages, was satisfied with his day's ride.
While luck escaped Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Rui Goncalves in the qualifying race for his home MX2 GP in Portugal on Saturday, he remains confident of a top result on Sunday.
