HEPPNER, Ore. -- Breeze along a rutted trail through pine trees and sage flats on a four-wheel-drive, all-terrain vehicle.
Crunch your customized Jeep over huge mounds of boulders. Or zip through the woods on your dirt bike.
Welcome to the world of off-highway vehicle parks. Some people -- more and more each year -- live for this. They trek far and wide, hauling their vehicles of choice to recreational areas that cater to them.
Now fans of mechanized off-road recreation have a new destination: Morrow County opened a 6,200-acre park south of Heppner in the Blue Mountains in mid-May.
The park, which so far has almost 100 miles of trails, is for beginning to advanced riders. It has a variety of terrain and is at an elevation of more than 4,200 feet.
