August newsletter

August 2002

Hello to all,

This newsletter has been a long time coming and there has been heaps
happening behind the Supermotard scene in Australia.

For starters in case you have had your head buried in the sand, the World
Supermoto Championships are coming to Australia on 9 ? 10 November at
Broadford. After having a successful European Championship for a couple of
years, Youthstream, a promoter, has taken on the task of bringing the SM to

Green Triangle Enduro Dirt Bike Series Round 4

I entered in my first GTEC Dirt Bike round on the weekend of the 28th of July. It was Round 4 was a 3 hour Pony XXXpress.

For those not in the know, the Pony XXXpress bit meant that after every lap, you had to shut off the bike, push it about 20 metres, and then take a clothes peg off your bike, and put it on your race partners bike. Your race partner then roosts off into the distance for a time, before coming back, pushing, and putting the peg onto your bike, at which time you go roosting off, and so on.

Clarke Fuel Tank

Wanting a little more distance than was supplied with the standard WR250F tank in Australia, which is the standard YZ250F tank, I started looking around for options.

You can mount a WR400 Tank, but you also need to goto a WR400 seat, and overall, the seating position is quite different from the standard position.

The standard position is so good that I didnt want to change it.

A quite search, and a couple of posts to http://www.thumpertalk.com/, and the Clarke Tank was recommended.

24 Hour Trial Checkpoint

Well what a disaster.

It pissed down all Saturday and as far as Dazz and I were concerned it was a short day. We went to Kapunda and met up with a few amtra people to see off Chris Welly.

We then followed John P out to the AMTRA control to find that we had to turn onto a track that had a boggy when wet sign. There were a couple of others from another club there who had attempted to go on this track and had chickened out saying it was impassable which it certainly looked like.

Moonta Weekend

The weather was excellent this weekend, except very cold.

Met up with Katie and Ben on Saturday afternoon at the wallaroo quay and went for a sail in Bens parents yacht. It was a bit lumpy out which was better than the morning sail where a couple of Bens friends got somewhat green in the gills it being very rough. Great sailing and we had a number of dolphins for company along the way.

Saturday night was barbeque night and fine wine and conversation at the dining table. Ended with freshly baked muffins and ice cream so thanks Katie.

Supermotard Final

VD Bosch led fromm lap two and was never headed to the finish.

Aussie Mark Avard said the competition was extremely tough and fast, a huge
eye opener to the fast Husaberg rider who was very much on the pace in the
Australian series.
