Hello to all,
I can only say how sorry I am to announce that the proposed Australian Supermotard Series 2003 will not be going ahead as planned this season.
Due to my personal circumstances I have been unable to continue promoting the series alone, whilst my other business interests continue. It was my intention to try to run the series through another promoter but this has come to zero
and although the entries are out for the first round on the Internet, many competitors have not received them and it would be unfair to continue.
A proposal was put to us about continuing the series but the offer was unrealistic in the extreme, and Supermotard Australia will not have its integrity compromised by greedy business is business type people.
I felt that the meeting would not up to a standard that would be expected of sponsors and that we would have done the SM movement more harm than good to continue. Yamaha in particular have been fantastic to Supermotard so far and this would not have represented their interests well.
The 6 October meeting will still go ahead but will be run by MV with some assistance from Supermotard Australia. Riders can enter on the day to try the new bitumen and dirt sections which are now completed. This is not to say Supermotard
Australia will not hold future series in the near future, in fact Supermotard Australia will continue to promote meetings and has dates booked with some circuits, which will be honored, and events conducted but not necessarily as part of a
series.
I have made this decision heartbreakingly, as I know the efforts some people have made to be part of the previous meetings that we have conducted. As we were unable to become involved in the lead up of the meeting, the preparation has fallen well short of what was required, mostly due to time restraints.
There may be another promoter who may take on SM as well and I urge you all to become involved in the racing, just don't expect the entry fees to remain at the same level as our ones.
My priorities are now to ensure the Supermotard movement continues on its upward trend through the Supermotard riders club and I suggest that if you really would like to see and compete in more SM events, become a member and benefit in the future club races.
