Young motorcycle riders off to Canberra
They say that sport and politics have a lot in common, but when 19 young
motorcycle riders head to Canberra later on this month, their focus will
be on their performances as sportspeople, not on what happens in
Parliament House.
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) will play host to 19 young
motorcycle riders from all around Australia, for the second AIS Camp for
motorcycle competitors. The first was held in November last year.
The initiative is organised and supported by Motorcycling Australia, the
sport?s representative body.
The Camp is scheduled for the 31 July to 2 August and the following
riders are attending:
Rider Name Discipline
Tom Scott - Observed Trials
James Harvie - Observed Trials
Cameron Woodward - Speedway
Joel Parsons - Speedway
Matthew Wethers - Speedway
Chris Urquhart - Motocross
Brody Jennings - Motocross
Bradleigh Thompson - Motocross
Craig McDonald - Dirt Track
Christopher Seaton - Dirt Track
David Malins - Dirt Track
Jake Stapleton - Enduro
Morgan Fitzgerald - Enduro
Ryan Smart - Enduro
Nick Henderson - Road Racing
Deon Coote - Road Racing
Ben Attard - Road Racing
Two MA representatives, Stephen Gall and Ian Willis, will lead the Camp.
Stephen Gall is MA?s National Coaching Director and eight-time national
motocross champion. Ian Willis is a member of MA?s National Coaching
Subcommittee. Their insight and knowledge will no doubt have a valuable
imprint on this next generation of young motorcycle sport enthusiasts.
The introductory Camp last year looked at Nutrition, Physiological
Testing, Organisation Skills, Media, Psychology, Strength and
Conditioning, Elite Rider Package and Motivation.
This second Camp looks at results of previous tests, and further
exploration of the areas covered in November.
Riders come from a variety of disciplines, a reinforcement of the many
options available to a person interested in taking up motorcycle sport.
?The AIS Camps show Motorcycling Australia?s commitment to developing
young motorcycle competitors,? MA Operations Manager Darryn Hannah said
today.
?We thank the AIS for supporting this initiative and look forward to
working with the AIS in the organisation of future Camps,? he said.
