Your next bike?

By simon, 11 August, 2003

The recent poll on dirtbike.ws was about what your next bike purchase will be. The results are very interesting, as most people will stick with the same brand If they are very happy with the bike. Brand loyalty also counted highly for people who would stick with the same brand.

The reasons people are leaving a brand were also interesting. Going 4 stroke counting highly, but "Time for a Change" counting quite highly also. Dealer support came in next. Relibility was hardly an issue at all, with only a 2% ranking, along with Poor aftermarket.

However, 6% said they are going to 2 stroke!, and 6% are changing because of no e-start on their current bike.

I must admit, brand loyalty had kept me a Honda fan for years. Years when I didn't even have a dirtbike!. Buying a Yamaha was the last thing on my mind. But when the opportunity arose, and the performance was so much in front of the XR250, Brand loyalty was overridden with value for money (or was that lust for power?).

The WR250F has been a great bike, and I have been impressed with the reliability, performance and ease of service on it, but will I stay with Yamaha Blue?

For me, having switched from my "historic" brand, brand loyalty now counts as little. I would happily go for a Honda again, but having broken the mold once, I find myself looking at a much wider range of choices for my next ride.

What is your opinion?

I think you should buy the bke that is best for you and the sport your doing like freestyle would be Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki. if your trail riding you should probably get a 4-stroke handa or Kawasaki. If you ride Motocross you can get the bike that feels most comfortable the same goes with riding just for fun. But for motocross you want to find one with a good top end and for supercross one with a good bottom end.

CRF Will go well

All the reviews have been pretty good, but fast compared to what?

Not XR650 or CR500 Desert Fast, and Not KTM 125/200EXC Tight woods Fast.

But yes, great fun, Normal Guy fast, just like the rest of the 250 four strokes will be.

they are real fast there basi

they are real fast there basicly a crf450 but a little more tame. they will still pull the front wheel off the ground with a small twist of the throttle, but still rev to the moon. get one you won't be disapointed.

CRF250

All CR Dirt Bikes Are real good. I would Prefer a CRF250 over a 450 mainly because of the size and what i can handle go off jumps.

Honda

I like the CR125 for when you start to ride dirt bike. Ya it does have more work to be done to it. The bike has good speed and it is realy good for jumping. But if you want to fork out a little more money then just buy a CRF250R since it is a four Stroke you will not have as much work and expenses to be done to it. Once you advance you can move up to the CRF450R.

CRF are fast

The CRF250R is equal to the CR125R and the CRF450R is equal to the CR250R

WR and TTR

Can someone please give me a good comparison between a XR250 and a TTR 250?

simon

21 years 3 months ago

In reply to WR and TTR by Anonymous (not verified)

Well...

They are quite similar, except the TTR250 has electric start. There is also the DRZ250 to consider.

That should be enough to sway anyone thinking of either towards the TTR250. If you want something more "Enduro" or more capable than the TTR, then look at the KTM 250EXC, or maybe the WR.
