I am looking into getting a bike and will mostly be trail riding (75%) and some track riding with jumps (25%). I am 5'10" 195 and have been looking at the CR125 and CRF230. I would love to go with the 125 but have been told it is not great for trail riding as you have to keep the RPM's up so high. The 230 seems a little small and limited on the track side. It has been mentioned to look at a CRF250 but I have a feeling that may be too much bike for a first bike. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

go with the 250
I say you should go for a crf250r or crf250x the R model is great for both but if you want a calmer engine i would go with the x sice you wont have to keep the rmps so high
i used to have a 2006 crf 230f and i dont care what anyone says that thing was heavy, slow and bogged uphills even when i clutched it 4th gear wouldnt keep up. (only weigh 150 pounds)
im 14 and i just bought a 2006 crf250r its crazy fast and i would even ride trails with it but you can always ride tracks or just anywhere i think it fits the majority of offroad riding and your always going to ask for more power when you handle it
the cr125 isnt a good first b
the cr125 isnt a good first bike if u dont know how to ride
I have heard some say you can
I have heard some say you can "tune" a 125 and have the gearing set up so it handles well on trails? Any knowledge of this? I wouldn't want to get a 125 then spend boatloads of money to just get it trail ready.
why only honda
i used to have a 2002 kx125, and it was great on the trails, it got into mid range with no clutchthanks to an actual usable bottom end (didnt even have to be on pipe to climb gnarly hills, can any one can name a other 125 that can do this) , power was really smooth with no hit at all (and although it felt lacking in power it was dead even with my friends 02 yz125, and felt lighter :), suspension was good, great egos, good brakes, and was the most reliable bike iv ever owned ( and iv owned a xr). it was a great bike, now i bought my rmx250, i still miss my kx all the time, i wish i didnt get rid of it, it never stoped.... i would defernetly recomend one to you
i have both bikes
truth is, being that the 125 has to have the rpm's up so high at all times, for a begginer makes it a little hard but once you ride it for a while and get the hang of it i guarantee you tou will love it! on the other hand the crf250r is an amazing bike that for anyone, begginers or pro's is soo suitable. i have the 250 alos and ride the trails almost 100 percent of the time and it is just perfect. i have many friends that have recieved this bike for a first bike and they love it! so basically i would sugest gettin the crf250r.
4 or 2
I have a 1992 kx 80 im just starting racing and im getting a new bike because my KX85 is just becoming a Money Bucket. Ive been reading that the four strokes are the new generation but i was always taught not to believe everything i read. So i was wondering if any one could HELP me dicide between a Honda Crf150r and kx,rm,sx 85cc bikes.
i think that you should go with a 4 four trails
I think that you should go with a four if you are going to be riding trails alot but idk if you would want the 230 i mean go twenty more cc's and your at the 250 but especially if your not supposed to be riding where your not supposed to.
Go with the 2 much better you
Go with the 2 much better you will become a faster rider on one too 4strokes are like pigs
