I have been riding 2 strokes for the past couple of years and have recently decided to join the 4 stroke family. I was just wondering what kind of general maintence is required... especially for cr450f's and yz450f's Do you have to rebuild top ends... etc.
Thanks
yeah
yeah you'll have to rebuild the top end but not as much and not to much maintance just enough to keep it clean and running good.unless you break something

i just got myself a yz250f, im comming from a 125.
from what i hear the yzf's are really reliable, but i change the oil every 3-4 rides or about 5 hours depending on how hard i ride it. i bought a stainless steel oil filter so every time i do my oil i can clean it and not have to buy a new one, i think those should be changed every few oil changes, or every 10-15 hours. Its not really the piston you have to watch out for its the valves, the manual say i think about 10-15 hours to check the valve specs but i kno people who have gone seasons without doing it.Although i just got my bike a few weeks ago and im already getting ready to get them checked though.
To me maintaining a 4 stroke is more work than my 125 anyday
four stroke maintnence is mor
four stroke maintnence is more that two stroke and by far more expensive......simple because there are more moving parts... you better be your own mechanic when it come time to rebuild that head or your lookin at 1500$ or more...

i am not sure cuz i always had 2 strokes but alot of my freinds have gone to the 4 strokes and say they r much easier to maintain and the engine life is alot longer.my brother has yz450f and has had no problems except sprocket wear[i recomend ti-molly for high torque machines.
