Im 13 I live in Australia and I want to buy a YZ250f for about $4200 (AUSTRALIAN) I currently ride an XR200 02 model and its getting to slow and suspension to soft- I need to upgrade soon. I want to get a YZ250f 2001- 2003 model because of pricing. Have there been any problems with the YZ250f's? I have heard of valves and starting issues such as when bike is hotter it usaully dos'nt start first kick? Also are they comfortable like the seat and the tank is higher than the new bikes and would it be as easy to get right up the front of the bike on corners with out doing injuries? Also are the older ones fast and really quick off the mark? So yer has anyone got an older model YZ250f or heard of problems with them?
Any help would be awesome thanks.
(Now if you excuse me I have to go chuck another Shrimp on the barby ha ha)
Cheers Stevo...

hey
All 4 strokes are hard to start when hot i was on a brand spankin new crf250 and my god i was wore out kickin it got back on my yz125 and i was in love. If anything the newr bikes would be quicker off the mark its kinda the point of making new models lol. I was on a yz250f 01 emm yeah fun to ride not half as much as a 2 smoker but like the 01 250f was yamahas first 250f and the first models are never as good as the second so ide try get a a 02 one if i where you. Plus i think its just on 01 yamaha 250f that when ur kicking it when its hot u have to sort of slowly kick it 2-3 times and then u feel the compression coming back in then u hit it a good one and it will fire up and if ur unlucky u have to do it all over again. Thats the way it was for me when i was on one. Plus if that 4200 is all the money u have and u will be broke after you should think about 2 stroke cause 4 stroke cost money!!!!.
i just bought a 2005 yz250f f
i just bought a 2005 yz250f for 4300 (canadian), i race motocross, do enduro and ride trails for fun, i just came off a 98 RM125m. i have 1 thing to say... ill never buy another 2 stroke... EVER!! My bike starts first kick hot or cold a guy i know has an 02 model which starts no problems, he has checked but not adjusted his valves in 3 seasons. The bike is made to be ridden on the tank, since its the best position for turning and handling. Both of our bikes have got enough speed for anything, the torque and tall gears make it soooo easy to ride as well. Yamaha is on top 4 stroke reliability wise, but personally i dont skip out at all on maintenance, i dont think i want to spend 1300 on new valves and a top end
