The recent poll on dirtbike.ws was about what your next bike purchase will be. The results are very interesting, as most people will stick with the same brand If they are very happy with the bike. Brand loyalty also counted highly for people who would stick with the same brand.
The reasons people are leaving a brand were also interesting. Going 4 stroke counting highly, but "Time for a Change" counting quite highly also. Dealer support came in next. Relibility was hardly an issue at all, with only a 2% ranking, along with Poor aftermarket.
However, 6% said they are going to 2 stroke!, and 6% are changing because of no e-start on their current bike.
I must admit, brand loyalty had kept me a Honda fan for years. Years when I didn't even have a dirtbike!. Buying a Yamaha was the last thing on my mind. But when the opportunity arose, and the performance was so much in front of the XR250, Brand loyalty was overridden with value for money (or was that lust for power?).
The WR250F has been a great bike, and I have been impressed with the reliability, performance and ease of service on it, but will I stay with Yamaha Blue?
For me, having switched from my "historic" brand, brand loyalty now counts as little. I would happily go for a Honda again, but having broken the mold once, I find myself looking at a much wider range of choices for my next ride.
What is your opinion?
I hear you big bore buddy my
I hear you big bore buddy my 2001 kx 500 with a 13/50 sprockets, pro circuit system is a dirt rocket faster than a cbr600 to 60 mph on the hard top NO JOKE. In 3rd gear and a whip of the right hand its is fast as you want to go(3rd gear 1/2 on the gas and power band 55+mph)and sometimes toooooooooooo much , Im I fast in the tight trails, hills or what ever riding with an x pro gncc racer and keeping on his ass on a worked 2001 cr 250 untill the tight gets open and then i kick in the afterburners and away i go. But before you go and down the new thumpers get a dirt rider or bike mag. about the AF500CR (cr500 2 stroke in a new 250 frame)and the CRF500f(4 stroke big bore kit w/ cam change) very close by the way my next bike is going to be a 04 cr450 gas at 2 bucks a gallon and 17 bucks for a qt of 927 pre mix 10 gallon gets a little much .

CRF250
There a great bike. I've got one myself. There very light, you can just whip it on the jumps and it has plenty of power. You can be sitting right up on the tank and just twist full throttle and the front wheel comes right up. There are plenty of upgrades like I bought a Staintune exhaust and now I'm keeping up with the 2-stroke 250's. They really have a buetiful feeling engine, especially when you whind em up to 13,000 rpm and shift another gear. There also really good at jumping to but there not actually that much slower than the 450. You just have to buy a set of triple clamps because the handlebars are a little too forward.
YZ 250F
I love my YZ 250F so go for it. It's the best bike in it's class.

honda vs. kawasaki
hey buddy, this is to who ever said whats up top there. any way, my friend just bought a brand new honda, and it broke the next time he used riding. i helped him work on it and it was a bitch to fix. now my kawasaki, there is not as much space around the engine, so changing a spark plug is as easy as pie. so im just here to say that honda's drule, and kawasaki rules. and for all the kawasaki fans, beat the crap outa anyone who says "kawasuki" i sure did!!!!
rm 125\250 or kx 125/250?
im convinced that im going to get one of these bikes since they are probably the chaepest and the better jumping bikes. my friends bro is braggin bout his kx125 and i wanna smoke his ass when i go out to the desert next time with them. Which of the ones above should i get?
KTM's <<<<<< I WISH
ktm
the ktm 125 sx is the fastest engin in its class and they are an awsome bike to jump. But if you are really looking for power go the ktm 520
TTR-in-Oz
I bought a TTR250 over the XR250 mainly because of the electric start. In Australia both the XR and TTR are road legal. If you are a serious dirt rider you need to change the rubber on the TTR and consider a Staintune exhaust. With a good set of knobbies, a minor airbox mod and Staintune the bike is just fantastic. Also put some barkbusters on it just for safety. My mate paid a lot more for his WR250 and sure, its a little quicker around the MX track but my TTR is just as good on most trails. It even has goes up steep hills better than the WR ( think its to do with the heavy flywheel) it really takes on some steep stuff. We swap bikes quite a lot and I'm always more than happy to get back on mine. I tweaked with the spring settings but ended up going back to standard settings. I'm not doing any other mods now as I'm very happy with the bike. Next bike - not worth the small step up to the WR250, I'd be going up to a WR450 or a KTM.
CRF 230
What do you guys think about the CRF 230? I can afford the 230 but not the 250. What should i do? Revised: I ended up buyin a KTM 400sx and its awesome. Lots of power. Not too heavy.
