The CMA/Clawson Motorsports California Supercross is set to take place November
1-2 with an entry list that reads like a who's who in motocross. The event will
be held in Grizzlies Stadium-one of the newest AAA baseball stadiums in the
country-and is shaping up to be a must-see on any motorsports fan's agenda.
Headlining the list of riders scheduled to compete is the King of Supercross
himself, Jeremy McGrath. The 8-time national champion will compete aboard a Pro
Circuit built Honda CR250. Many other top riders plan to attend, including
David Vuillemin, Eric Sorby, David Pingree, Tyler Evans, Phil Lawrence, Josh
Hansen and Fresno's own Rusty Holland.
Retired or not, Jeremy McGrath is looking forward to the race and determined to
be a factor in Fresno. "I've been riding supercross ever since I got home from
the last race in England", he said. "I take every race seriously. I'll be
riding a new Pro Circuit CR250R and of course I'm going up there to try and
win. That's what I'm going for. I want to have some fun too while I'm there.
It's kind of going to be like old times. I'm driving my own van there and it's
not like I'm going to have a factory mechanic and all of that stuff. I'm just
going to cruise up with one of my friends, maybe my dad and that's it. I'm
looking forward to it."
The California Supercross will be a rare opportunity for American race fans to
see Jeremy McGrath compete in the sport that made him famous. Other highlights
will include freestyle demonstrations by Moto XXX team rider "Mad" Mike Jones,
amateur exhibition races and a celebrity "crossover" race. The crossover event
will take athletes from other sports and put them in teams of two to compete on
the same track the pros will run. Among others, race attendees will see Jet Ski
icon Victor Sheldon, professional skateboarders Jason Ellis and Salman Agah,
Factory Kawasaki drag racer Ricky Gaddis and top fuel drag boat pilot Mark
Workentine taken out of their comfort zones and left with only their
competitive instincts to guide them.
Pros will run heat races in 125 and 250cc classes before the respective main
events. The grand finale will be a "Bounty Hunter" main event where the top
qualifiers from both classes compete for the lion's share of the $20,000.00
purse. The Bounty Hunter race will feature a single file, inverted start. In
other words, the fastest riders will be at the back of the pack.
Saturday and Sunday will both feature the full race schedule including main
events. Pro practice starts at 4PM on Saturday, followed by autograph sessions
and the races. Sunday will feature a day race with pro practice starting at
11:30 AM. Other details and information are available at http://www.cmaracing.com/.
