Got a 99 rm 250 bored to 310, new flutes in carb, pipe, etc. You get the picture. Was set up for racing. I don't race. I haven't made many susp changes accept for adjusting for my weight. Need to know if i should change rear teeth to 50 instead of 48 and also I heard I can tune the carb to bring on the power band closer to idle. Would these be good ideas considering all that I will be doing is trail riding and climbing hills. Any other advice on changes would be appreciated.
This combo works for me
I own a 2001 RM 250, it’s a stocker, with no engine mods. I am running the Power Now (http://scaryfastracing.net/pn-info.html), and a Moto Tassinari Delta V-Force 2 Reed system, they have a newer V3 Model now (http://www.mototassinari.com/ ). I added a few Works Connection guards to help protect the radiator and rear brake caliper. I run a 13 up front, with a 51 in the rear. This seems adequate for steep hill climbs, not vertical hill climbs, and still leaves enough speed to get down the trail.
Good luck.

carb tunning
hey you could tune the carb with the pilot jet an pilot needle to create a leaner engine on the low end but this is dangerous an useless because your pipe is what sets your power band.
