I've recently just had my front forks rebuilt on my 2003 Yamaha YZF450. I had the seals replaced,(that was the main damage to fix) and then I understand they were "revalved" and the oil replaced with a new weight and was filled to a level for the ride type that I specified; which was enduro riding. Can anyone explain to me the differences in the oil levels, oil weights and spring rates that derive the different setups for motocross, hillclimbing, scrambles etc? Thanks
Anybody?
So does anybody know anything about front suspension setups out there?
Should help
i do... the weight has to do with how fast the shocks compress and rebound.... now i know there is adjustments for that but the oil plays a big part too.... the oil spec level has to do with how your gonna ride.. for instance if your oil level is to high and you land off a big jump once you run out of compressing room inside those forks the oil has no where to go.... that level leaves air in the top of the fork that gets displaced by the oil when it compresses... but i found your best to stick the the oil that the factory calls for and the oil level as well...... good luck....
Thanks
Thanks derek that all makes perfect sense but I was looking for what the actual numbers were if anybody had experience with that. like the following:
Moto: 100cc of oil, 5 weight, spring: stock
Enduro: 120cc of oil, 5 weight, spring: ?
Hillclimb: 90cc of oil, 10 weight, spring ?
I dont know what the numbers are and I probably dont need to know but was wondering. I do know that most bike are setup from the factory with the moto spec accroding to my shock builder. guess I should just ask him.
oh sorry the cc of oil is the
