The Massape soil: Enduro Ride Report

Yesterday I was at Ponta de Pedra, about 100km (~60 miles). It was the first enduro of the season. Ponta de Pedra is a very beautiful beach, with a calm sea, perfect for swimming andkids. The place is very calm and small.

The efforts to go to the enduro began friday night. My car, a 91 vw gol, had a not-working cassete player in it when I bought the car. Some time ago, I sent the stereo to fix it and a hard to find transistor made me car sound-less for a long time. Friday evening, he gave my stereo back and I finished installing it by 1am. I burned the water temp gauge in the process... Oh well, at least I could drive to Ponta de Pedra listening to Iron Maiden.

Another Boondoxxx report from Fred B

The boy and I decided earlier in the week to go out to Boondoxxx again this weekend. It's not the greatest place, but it's very close by and we figured to get him some more saddle time on the relatively open terrain. (Btw, Jim would be proud of him... the other day he says, out of the clear blue, "I'm gonna be a woods rider!"

Anyway, we loaded up and got out there at about 1pm. My 14-year-old daughter, Tiffany, wanted to come along and bring her friend, Julie. I said sure.

It was quite hot today here in the DFW area. I dunno if it got up to 90, but it sure felt like it! And the heat was very draining. Worse, we had only brought a small cooler filled with Cokes and, though they were fine for cooler weather, they did nothing to rehydrate us in today's heat. It'll be Gatorade and bottled water next time!

Boondoxx Ride Report from Fred B

I'm gonna preface this ride report by explaining a couple of things first for those who may be unfamiliar with my story.

1) Today was my first real riding time in about 12 years or so.
2) It was only my second ride on the '85 RM-250, the first being a very brief session in a cow pasture a month or so ago.

AZ Race Report: I'd Have Rather DNF'd

Well, it was a rough weekend in Arizona for our local heroes.

Eric and I arrived at sign-ups for the Desert Mountain National Enduro right when they opened at 10am Saturday morning. We parked by Bruce and Clint Brown's compound, but they were nowhere in sight. The first thing Eric does when he exits the van is walk straight up to a cholla cactus and touch it with his finger tip. Of course, he backs off looking like a pin cushion. I don't know what he was expecting, but he sure looked like a new-comer to the desert with the spines poking out of his finger. What a dork

Cage of death at the big day out

Not really a ride, but they had a "Cage of Death" at the Big Day Out concert. Here are some pictures of it.

Amtra SA Big Trip

Amtra SA did a big trip to the Victorian high country this year, and everyone who went had an absolute blast. The following pictures are some choice ones from the trip. All were taken by riders on the trip, and a big thankyou for John for doing a lot of work in producing a CD of them all. Click on a picture to see it fullsize.

Kapunda Ride Report

6:30am on a particularly cold Sunday morning is reason enough for anyone to stay put in bed, but the thought of a newly mapped ride, previously unexplored by Amtra soons saw me spring out of bed and into action. Probably more correctly said, crawl out of bed and into the shower.

X-treme Lumezzane International Enduro

[image:1184,top] X-treme Lumezzane is touted the most beautiful, toughest, hardest, longest and richest enduro race in the World. This year the race lived up to it's name and attracted over 10,000 spectators to the mountainous village of Lumezzane in the region of Brescia, Northern Italy.

Current World Enduro Champion, Stefan Merriman emerged the winner of the famous international enduro race after 10 hours on Saturday, 2.5 hours in the night and 6.5 hours on Sunday. The stifling heat, tight time checks on the trail and 22 special tests in total made this year's race particularly difficult, with only 21 out of the 70 riders entered finishing.

Merriman won both day stages of the race and was only beaten in the night stage by Fausto Scovolo (who did not complete the first day stage due to mechanical problems and was thus excluded from final standings). Victory in both the 2 stroke class and overall classification earned Merriman 6,000 Euro ($12,000 AUD) for his efforts. [image:1185,bottom]
