Sunset Country - 23/24/25 April 2005

Ian had once again put in the hard work to arrange accomodation for a ride. This time for the Sunsent Country ride. Thanks again for that Ian!

Ian had estimated 4 hours travelling time to get to the campsite, but since I was travelling from closer than he, and didn't have a caravan, I reckoned I could make it in about 2 and a half to three hours.

I left work at around 1:30pm, rushed home, loaded up the bike and gear and finally managed to drag myself away at around 3pm.

Getting close to camp, I encountered a few Kangaroos crossing the road, which is common at dusk here in South Australia. Luckily, despite my hurrying, I managed to avoid them, although I did test out the ABS with the Husky on a trailer behind the Forester.

Wow, what a ride. Enduro ride report

This weekend I was at Vitoria, just 50km west from where I live. Friday I quit work one hour early, went to the motorcycle trailer rental place to pick a three rail trailer, loaded bikes and stuff and went to Vitoria. Checked in the little motel (US$20 for the weekend) and went to subscribe for the race. I have an enduro computer which can be programmed, but the (des)organization of the race have a notebook equiped with a cable that connects to the enduro computer and can be used to transfer the program, so, instead of being awake late at night to input 50 pages of programming, I handed my enduro computer... This was the first mistake of the weekend...

Blake Hore Race Report - Yamaha National Offroad Championship rounds 1 & 2

19-year-old Blake Hore made the trip north to Raymond Terrace, just outside Newcastle NSW, over the weekend (Apr 23-24) to compete in the debut of the Yamaha National Offroad Series. Promoters, Dirtbike promotions had done a great job of providing the competitors with a great circuit an a professional looking event.

The Christensens Motorcycles backed rider had a weekend of ups and downs but for the most part the ups far outweighed the downs. Taking his Yamaha WR450F to a 16th in Saturdays opening round and 6th on Sunday's second round, Blake was up beat and pleased with how he performed over the two days.

AJ Roberts blitz NSW Enduro for Husqvarna

Husqvarna’s AJ Roberts claims his maiden outright win at round one and two of the NSW Enduro series held at Gwandalan Junior Trials Facility on March 5 and 6. 22 year old Roberts who stepped up to the premier E2 class (250cc two-stroke and 450cc fourstoke) for 2005 made the journey south from Queensland to contest the titles. He set the trails alight from the outset over the two day event riding his Husqvarna WR 250 two stoke to not only the outright win but also the Pro E2 class, a feat Husqvarna hasn’t seen since back in 2000.

ACS Racing - Victorian Full Throttle Sports Thumper X

The Full Throttle Sports Victorian ThumperX was held at the Pakenham Motor Sports Complex on Sunday 10 October on a beautiful sunny Melbourne day. ACS Racing had five riders entered and as usual the Juniors were on fire with two first places and a third.

The senior riders Ryan Smyth and Adrian Salmon in the Clubman Lites both had good rides and a great day. The track was a grass field complete with yellow daisies in full bloom that soon turned into a tough track with ruts, braking bumps and slippery corners but it still remained a fun track that tested both bike and rider.

The youngest team member Luke Smith had a great weekend on the ACS Racing Yamaha TTR125. Luke won the Club Thumpers class at the Nunawading and District Motocross Club s third round of their club championships on Saturday 9 October 2004 and then won the Up to 125cc 4 stroke class at the ThumperX at Pakenham on Sunday 10 October 2004.

ThumperX, Australian Junior Motocross Titles and Plaster

From Taylor Potter - The good news first.

I had another win in the Victorian ThumperX series on my ACS Racing BBR150 4 stroke at Avalon on Sunday 26 September 2004. The track was really fast and flowing. The weather was sunny for an hour then it was wet then it was sunny again. Weird weather but I had a cool time and won 3 races outright from 3 starts.

On the Saturday before the ThumperX I had coaching from Cameron Taylor (CDR Yamaha) and that was really good. Cameron worked on my braking and corner speed and I learnt a lot and he helped me out a lot. Thanks Cameron.

Now the bad news.

Framebreaker

Sunday August 15th, 2004 Baumgartner, Idaho

Key time for our ride on this day was set for 7am, in the hopes of leaving the Baumgartner campground by 8am. That is exactly what happened, much to my pleasure. Our group consisted of me, Eric, Dan, Tim Harrell and Mark Weaver. We were planning a big day, going up Big Smoky to the Smiley Creek Lodge, and then hitting some trails out past Alturas Lake that Eric had discovered while riding with Bad Brad McNew 2 years ago.

The ride out to Big Smoky Junction was a bit cold, as it was about 11 miles of road. We stopped at the junction and peeled off our warm layers, knowing we wouldn't need them on the punishing trails ahead. We headed up Big Smoky, Eric leading the way followed by Tim, Dan, then Mark and then me. This trail rocks! It quickly became my favorite trail so far. It offers up a bit of everything that makes Idaho special. It had some long scary sidehill sections, gorgeous views of the Big Smoky Creek down below, big gnarly rock sections, nice narrow trails through meadows complete with lurking toe-breakers, and a few creek crossings. I kept having to stop to take in the views. The creek was flowing pretty good and was very clear and blue-green.
