Why is the ttr125 so hard to start after its been sitting for a few days? I nearly wear myself out getting it going the first time.

No ttr problem here

mine always starts up no problem with 2-3 kicks, even if its been sitting for a few weeks, never touched anything with it either

Hard Starting ....common problem

Unfortunatley this is a common problem with these bikes - but with a simple fix. I have spoken to several mechanics that cant explain exactly how it happens - but can explain an easy fix. The problem seems to be that the gas goes bad in the bowl realitvely quickly because of its small size. The fix is to drain the gas out of the bowl using the drain screw. Shut off your gas valve - unscrew the drain screw a few turns until gas starts coming out - continue until gas stops draining (bowl empty) - screw in the drain screw - open gas valve to let fresh gas refill the bowl. Thats all there is to it. It should now start easily.

ttr racing/riding

i raced my ttr in the 80 senior class and came out in 7th out of 11 people. The 80/85's will pull away on straight aways and jumps are easier for them but if you keep the speed up then you shouldnt have that bad of a problem. my suggestion is just get an 85 if your going to race it. also if you race the ttr then you would want better suspesion. if you dont, then your ttr is gonna go to shit liike mine did and get the crap beat out of it. its a playbike.

not starting well

I have a TTR 125 and I had the same problem and it turns out it was the carberator was really dirtty so just get it cleaned and it should start first kick. It worked for me and I cleaned it 4 months ago and still starts first kick. try it.

I used to think a CR500 was fast

I had an '84 CR500 which I thought was the fastest production dirt bike ever made. That was until I got the '04 KTM 525 EXC. I beat a CR500 last week pretty handily. I used all 6 gears and he used all 5. :-)

ttr 125 hard to start

Make sure your vent hose on your fuel cap is not kinked or pinched. I also shut fuel off and run carb out of gas after every use to keep the carb from getting gummed up.
